Charles’ ex-wife died in 1997 in a horror car crash in Paris. Before her death she had been married to the future King. However, in an interview with her voice coach during the 90s, Diana admitted that they spent time together on just over a dozen occasions.
According to Cosmopolitan, Prince Charles told the Daily Telegraph in 1981: "I remember thinking what a very jolly and amusing and attractive 16-year-old she was.
"I mean, great fun, and bouncy and full of life and everything."
But before the couple married, Diana and Charles announced their engagement on TV.
She revealed: "We had this ghastly interview the day we announced our engagement, and this ridiculous [reporter] said, ‘Are you in love?’
Diana separated from Prince Charles in 1996 following 15 years of marriage.
During her time as a member of the Royal Family, Diana became one of the most recognisable and popular faces in the world.
On the specific day Diana separated from Charles, one royal expert has spoken of the touching question Diana uttered to Charles.
Writing in her book, ‘The Queen and Di: The Untold Story’, Ingrid Seward spoke of the moment the pair met for the first time following their separation.
The two met in Kensington Palace in the first-floor drawing room Diana called the salon of her apartment.
Walking into the room, Diana allegedly asked Charles, “Why did this have to happen?”.
